So much went right for NDCC in 2010/11 and being crowned "Cricket Illawarra Club Champions" is a tremendous reward for all the hard work by the club - both on & off the field in recent years. It is something I've always set as the No.1 Goal for the club since I became President. It's taken 5 seasons, but now we are the benchmark.
Club Champions, a 1st Grade 1-day title, Both 2nd Grade titles, a 3rd Grade 2-Day title and our 4th Grade side were also Grand Finalists - What a Season!
In 1996, Thirroul Cricket Club became Northern Districts Cricket Club & relocated our home ground from Gibson Park (Thirroul) to Hollymount Park (Woonona). This formed part of NDCC's desire to represent the northern suburbs of the Illawarra in the best way possible. The club set the goal to become a consistent performer in the Illawarra Cricket Competition & have had some great team success over the past 15yrs, but the Club Championship title had eluded NDCC until now. In fact Thirroul last won the title in 1981, so it had been a while between drinks for some of the "older blokes" at the club also.
Some other clubs focus on winning 1st grade titles, however, the Management Committee of NDCC have always believed that the Club Championship gives the best overall indication of where a club is at against our competitors, so to take the 2010/11 title vindicates the club's focus across all grades and the support we provide to our junior club, not just 1st grade. We are now seeing the benefits of that focus and many of those younger guys will be great contributors to the club as a result.
To further consolidate the desired culture at NDCC, a small group of volunteers have spent the off season developing on a new Strategic Plan to take the club into the future - once again focusing on keys areas like Infrastructure, and player development. NDCC strongly believe that if you provide the right environment and empower the players with the skills and belief in their ability, the results will come ...just like they did in 2010/11.
The future is VERY bright for NDCC and we would love to see your business involved in supporting us on the journey ahead.
