Northern Districts Cricket Club (formerly Thirroul Cricket Club) was established in 1896 and has been an integral part of cricket in the Illawarra region for over 111 years. In the past, all home matches were held at Gibson Park Thirroul but after the club underwent a name change from Thirroul Cricket Club to Northern Districts Cricket Club in 1996, the club's base shifted to our current home of Hollymount Park Woonona.
Over recent years, Northern Districts Cricket Club has worked in conjunction with Wollongong City Council and the NSW Department of Sport & Recreation toward the continued development of the sporting facilities at Hollymount Park. Hollymount Park now boasts a new clubhouse which is shared with Woonona AFL Club, as well as a new turf wicket came into operation during the 2007/2008 season. This new venue also provides the club and sponsors with greater exposure through frontage onto Princes Highway, a major roadway linking the Northern Suburbs of Wollongong.
The club has a very strong junior base with over 12 teams regularly playing in the Illawarra Junior Cricket Association. The senior club is committed to fostering young talent from this strong junior base to progress into the 5 grades that currently play in the Illawarra Cricket Association senior competition. The management of Northern Districts Cricket Club has also resisted the trend adopted by many clubs of making payments to players. We believe that all proceeds generated through sponsorship and fund-raising activities should be directed to improving the club, ground facilities and playing equipment for all members of the club.
In 2010/11 the club won it's first Club Championship.
