Round 1 of the 2009-10 season kicked off at Hollymount Park between a new look 16A Thirroul side against the competitive side of Shellharbour. In a beauty of a day at Hollymount the toss was won by Shellharbour's captain who decided to try their luck with the bat.
Tom Green and Stuart McNair opened the bowling and both bowled good spells and were unlucky not to get an early wicket. Daniel Van Wijk bowled a great opening spell and was a real threat early on causing a lot of issues for the opening batsman. Lachlan Dunn at the other was bowling well and got the breakthrough wicket in his second over after a very nice piece of fielding by Hayden Crosland, taking a nice catch at short mid-wicket. Lachlan took 2 vital wickets in his first spell and finished with 3 for the day.
Jackson Stewart bowled a superb first spell for the season getting 2 for 11 off 6 over's and slowed the run rate down with some sharp bowling. Ryan O'Hara after a slow start got 2 wickets in his 6 over's for 28 runs. Thirroul looked on top at the 40 over mark and had Shellharbour 8 for 116 after another well deserved wicket a couple of over's before drinks when Tom Green got his first with a good catch from Zach Gervaise at Mid Off.
Hayden Crosland came on to bowl a good 3 over spell with Lewis Clements at the other end bowling his 4 over spell that kept the Shellharbour batsman guessing. Daniel Van Wijk picked up a nice wicket before Tom Green finished off Shellharbour with a great ball to end Shellharbour's innings on 157 runs off 54 over's. The pick of the bowlers were Tom Green with 2 for 33 of 10.4 over's and Jackson Stewart with his 2 for 11 off 7 over's with a good all round bowling and fielding effort.
Jorey Wilson and Jackson Stewart Opened the batting and looked very good in the 6 over's before the end of the day with 2 beautiful drives from Jackson Stewart and one from Jorey have put Thirroul in a good position to continue from next week at 0 for 20.
