Dalton Park - 2nd Grade were unable to stave off outright defeat on Saturday, going down heavily in a match they'll be happy to look past and forget. Wollongong chose to continue batting and eventually posted 197 on a deck that looked like it might hold up a little better than the week prior. The standout was Jed Austin who claimed two of the final three wickets, while Jason Wilson snared the last to register his debut 2nd Grade scalp.
Knowing they needed to bat for a long time, Northern Districts got off to a poor start as Coleman (1), Joinking (2) and Brown (8) were back in the pavilion early. Brown's dismissal, a leading edge that was caught and bowled, would signal the start of a string of similar dismissals as the pitch started to fall apart.
Mick Allen (13), Aaron McRae (18) and Michael Doig (24) helped to give respect to the score with some good batting but all three gave tame dismissals as they failed to negotiate the pitch. And when English (7) was bowled off a half tracker that nearly rolled things were bleak in the middle.
Sismey (11) was aggressive and hit out along with Jason Wilson (6) and Austin (5) while Curtis Wilson (5*) remained not out in a score that just wasn't enough.
Wollongong only needed 19 and got there with 9 wickets in hand, Jed Austin once again the wicket taker to finish with three for the day. It's back to square one for the Butchers with an outright win and loss in successive games. Next up is Keira at who is batting well, a game the Butchers will really want to bounce back hard into.
