NDCC 2nd Grade had the pleasure of making the trek up the F6 to Helensburgh for the first day of a 2 day game against the Tigers.
The match started well for the Butchers with Jed Austin picking up 2 wickets in his opening spell to have Helensburgh at 2/25 on a good wicket and lightning outfield. The Burgh then began to rebuild until Sneaky Pete Cleaves snuck through to take a well deserved wicket after Jack Daskey took a screamer at 2nd slip and then when Mick Allen picked up the 4th wicket, with the score at 77 the match appeared to be well balanced.
The match continued in this trend with the Burgh building small partnerships and then the Butchers Fighting back to get the break trough. That was until enter Jackson Stewart with the pill and he picked up 3 crucial wickets for 16 runs in his first 6 overs. These wickets had the Burgh struggling at 8/155, until Jackson was forced off with bowling restrictions
After the tea break the butchers were confident of getting the last 2 wickets quickly and have a bat, but due to some good batting and dropped chances by the butchers the Burgh managed to get to 9/183. But once again the Burgh wouldn't give up and R. Morris batted beautifully to compile a well complied 91* batting at number 8, and gave the Burgh the edge by taking there total 255.
The Butchers were left to bat out the last 55 minutes of the days play, and Lucas Coleman and star all rounder Jackson Stewart strode out to the crease to see off the new ball and build a solid partnership to leave the Butchers at 0/38 at the end of the days play
