Greg Martin only knows 1 speed, and it took him to 57 in a hurry.
NDCC 4th Grade traveled to the Burgh on Saturday 9th and loss the toss and were sent into the field on a hot and dry day.

Dan Bond and Matt Craig opened the attack with some great line and length bowling and the Burgh openers never looked comfortable but pushed the ball around before skying one off Matt Craig to mid on where young Luke Clapson took a screamer to open the account for the butchers.

Two runs later Matt Craig struck again with Dean Martin holding on to one in fist slip. Matt Craig Finishing up with 2/13 off 6 overs. Burgh were 2/27 with only a couple of boundaries to their name.

The opening bowlers needed a rest from the intense heat so Chris Ledwidge and Craig Dickson  were bought into the attack. Both bowled well with Ledwidge unlucky having two chances off edges put down as the ball just didn't stick. Dicko also bowled well but the Burgh shot to 91 with still only two down.

Fill in skipper Rob Potter  turned to his senior playing group of Greg and Dean Martin for some more bowling changes and between the trio, they set some old school field placements and decided to take the pace off the ball by introducing Brice Hilliard. Brice went for 18 off his first 5 delivers and Potter was getting nervous but got the crucial wicket on the last ball of his first over removing the danger man on 45 with Mat Craig taking a great catch on the boundary. This sparked a collapse for the Burgh with Hilliard picking up another wicket in his next over with a great catch from the keeper Dan Bond.

Potter then decided to take even more pace off the ball and bought himself on as all fill in skippers would.

After 3 overs into Potters spell he had 1/13 and the Burgh were 5/109.

Brice Bowled even better at the tail and picked up a couple more wickets and ended up with great figures 4/25 off just 3 overs.

Potter wrapped up the tail with 3 wickets in his last over with two of the wickets coming straight out of the Salakas School of out swing finishing up with figures of 4/21 of 4.5 overs.

With the fielding at a very high standard and consistent bowling at the stumps the Butchers held the Burgh to their lowest score at home this year dismissing them all out for 113 off 27 overs. A great achievement up there.

Greg and Dean Martin opened the batting but Deano got a screaming first baller and the Butchers were 1/0 off 0.1

Young Luke Clapson went in and steadied the ship  at one end while Greg Martin was dispatching the ball to all parts of the boundary at the other.

Greg raced into the 30's in a blink of an eye as running between the wickets was not high on his agenda in the heat. Luke was dismissed for 12 after playing some sound shots and giving Greg as much strike as possible. Rob Potter played steady as a support role to Greg Martin as he reached his 50 in record time including 6 boundaries and 3 massive sixes and ending up with 57 before being bowled out probably from pure exhaustion more than anything.

Craig Dickson walked to the crease with his mind set on hurting the attack and did so from his fist ball smashing it over mid wicket to get off the mark with 6 runs. Batting partner at the time, Rob Potter spoke to Dicko during the end of the over and asked him to keep his head as he was batting well but Dicko replied, "sorry Pots got my bucks drink on this arvo and I need an early mark". Dicko continued the onslaught  smashing another 6 and a couple of boundaries, and was dismissed with a quick fire 23 to his name.

Potter fell soon after on 15 with Brice Hilliard and Jeff Burton getting us home with the Butchers finishing up on 7/ 118 off 16 overs.

Top performances with the bat from: Greg (I hate running) Martin 57 & Craig (I'm getting married) Dickson 23

Great efforts with the ball from: Brice Hilliard 4/25 off 3 overs, Rob Potter 4/21 off 4.5 overs & Mat Craig 2/13 off 6 overs

Fantastic fielding efforts from keeper Dan bond with 2 catches, Mat Craig 2 catches & Luke Clapson 2 catches with Craig Dickson, Deano Martin & Jeff Burton 1 catch a piece.

A great win for the boys up there and to keep the Burgh to such a low score at their home ground is an achievement in itself. Well Done.

We wish our Skipper Brett Buckley a speedy recovery from injury and hope he is back soon.
