In true Hollywood Oscars vein, our Gossip Writer brings you a preview of 10 junior players who might be in line to take out this years prestigious U19 Most Improved award. Keep in mind this is purely speculation and meant for entertaining reading and healthy discussion; the award winner may or may not be represented in this list. Please feel free to cast your vote (which will in no way have bearing in the judging), but should be fun to tally anyway.

The current holder is Jack Daskey who took the award after rising out of the Junior ranks in Season 2008/09; scoring 362 runs and taking 48 wickets across Junior and Senior Grades. His benchmark is a high one but we feel that the current crop boast like figures and offer similar potential in Butcher seasons to come.

Without further ado, we present you Season 2009/10 probables:

Jason Wilson
Jason has compiled 130 runs at 16.25, taken 9 catches and dismissed 22 batsmen at 20.82 to date in 3rd Grade this season. His memorable year was capped with a brilliant 7th wicket partnership to help the Butchers grab their first 3rd Grade title in 12 years. Will be needed in the 2-Day Finals over the coming month.
Bryce Hilliard
Bryce has compiled 150 runs at 12.50, taken 1 catch and dismissed 22 batsmen at 16.82 to date in 3rd & 4th Grade this season. His top score of 40 was a brutal affair that accounted for more than 80% of the team score (when dismissed) while his 5-10 against Port Kembla showed just how far he has come with his tweakers this year.
Matthew Van Wijk
Matthew has compiled 183 runs at 26.14, taken 3 catches and dismissed 6 batsmen at 14.17 to date in 4th & 5th Grade this season. Proving nigh impossible to get out (prompting club legend Gary Nielson to label him a crease resident), Matthew has twice carried his bat this year in a club that is crying out for batsmen of the patient variety.
Toby English
Toby has compiled 268 runs at 15.76, taken 10 catches, 2 stumpings and dismissed 7 batsmen at 13.71 to date in 1st, 2nd & 3rd Grade this season. An acccomplished all-rounder; Toby shone this season with a magnificent 99 against Keira and match winning knocks in low totals for 2nd Grade. He holds the key again this week in Round 14 for 2nd Grade.
David Bailey
David has compiled 122 runs at 10.17, taken 4 catches and dismissed 16 batsmen at 13.38 to date in 4th & 5th Grade this season. His 4-9 against competition heavyweights Dapto Gold was that of pure class and ensured they did not get away as per usual in a low total of 143. A utility player in the lower grades who has chipped in with wickets almost every game.
Robert Murphy
Robert has compiled 26 runs at 6.50, taken 6 catches and dismissed 17 batsmen at 9.18 to date in 3rd & 4th Grade this season. If he hadn't have been injured for half the season you wonder just what kind of numbers the youngest of the Murphy's would have put up this season, incredible really. A regular two and three wicket taker for 3rd Grade.
Jed Austin
Jed has compiled 32 runs at 10.67, taken 4 catches and dismissed 29 batsmen at 12.72 to date in 2nd & 3rd Grade this season. Fast, erratic, long messy black hair; there's just a lot to love about the Jedi. Currently leads the entire club in dismissals and hasn't set a foot wrong in every match he has played this season.
Geordie Crawford
Geordie has compiled 301 runs at 18.81 and taken 6 catches to date in 1st & 2nd Grade this season. 1st Grade's desperate search for an opener is over as young Geordie has turned in 1st Grade scores of 26, 29, 16 & 46 in succession to finally offer consistency that was sorely lacking. Batted beautifully in the U21 comp as well.
Jackson Stewart
Jackson has compiled 298 runs at 27.09 and dismissed 9 batsmen at 11.67 to date in 1st, 2nd & 3rd Grade this season. Captaining everything in Juniors - including the rep team, this likable kid has amassed so many runs at Junior level we're losing count. A 2nd Grade ton and a 4-fa (in the same match) shows he is going to be big, really big.
Lachlan Dunn
Lachlan has compiled 263 runs at 52.60, taken 11 catches and dismissed 7 batsmen at 13.00 to date in 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th Grade this season. He runs fast, catches everything, dominates U16 and even has time for a debut Grade century; no wonder he has been fast tracked to 2nd Grade for the final round. Dunn is a superstar in the making.
