Instead of the usual weekly wrap-up of Junior results across the club; the Northern Districts Juniors Correspondent will be presenting a daily look at each Junior team's season for 2010/11. The wins, the losses, the near misses, the standout performances, the lot.

The young Under 10 Blue side (some as young as six and seven) gave it their all in what was a first season of cricket for many of the players. Led by rookie coach Dean, the "Blues" managed to put together a few competitive performances and one big win against usually much stronger competition.

Under 10 participated in two competitions; an unreported Development phase before Christmas and a seven game Competitive phase after the break. Blue played five completed games after two unfortunate forfeits.

That win came against a Top 8 bound Wollongong in the first game of the competition phase; a remarkable result considering four of the top five were dismissed for ducks. Liam Doig (5*), Brendan Hardie (5), Joshua Carter (5), Jake Maron (10*) and Ethan Brunskill (10) rallied to help post a modest 7/64 from their alotted overs. Despite taking only one wicket, a c&b to Leon Cummins, Blue shone with some accurate bowling just when it was needed to finish 5-run winners in an exciting contest.

Ethan Brunskill, Brendan Hardie, Jake McDougall and Vincent Cummins all did admirably with the bat - finishing as the Top 4 in the team; though William Young finished with the highest individual score of 15*, Jake second with 12 and Jake Maron * Dacey O'Donnell tied for third with 10*. If there were any boundaries struck they were unfortunately not recorded.

Vincent and Ethan also led the wicket taking with three wickets a-piece; right behind them were Joshua Carter, Jake Maron and Leon Cummins with two each. Vincent finishing with the best average after collecting the best match figures of the season with 2/3 (and being on a hat-trick) against Keira.

In the field Leon Cummins, Jake Maron and Joshua Carter each took a catch, Jake McDougall scored the only run out with a direct hit!

Additional encouragement to Bradley Donnelly who was probably the quickest and unluckiest bowler in the side and Bill Buckley who, at six years of age and a tiny unit, possesses one of the better techniques.

Congratulations U10 Blue for trying your best and we look forward to seeing you on the field next year when you're a lot bigger and stronger!

All results collected from the seven competitive phase matches. Unfortunately the development phase is not reported to Cricket Illawarra.
