Instead of the usual weekly wrap-up of Junior results across the club; the Northern Districts Juniors Correspondent will be presenting a daily look at each Junior team's season for 2010/11. The wins, the losses, the near misses, the standout performances, the lot.
The Under 12 side had a tough year, finishing at the bottom of the table. Led by coach Allan Bond, the "12s" managed to put together a few competitive performances and then the wonderful finish to the season with a big upset win over the favoured Helensburgh side.
That win came after Helensburgh had won their first meeting quite easily. To turn that around, losing the toss, sent in to bat only to put on their highest score all season is testament to the fact this side never quit trying. On that special day mention must be given to the partnership between Logan Clements and Harry O'Donoghue, a sensational 51-run stand that really gave the side hope. Henry Kocatekin also opened well and found good form late in the season. Then every single bowler chipped in, of the nine who bowled eight picked up wickets - blowing away Helensburgh for a mere 84.
With the win ensured the team entered an unknown phase for them of setting up for an outright. It's fair to say they lifted their standards even higher, 4/98 dec thanks to top batting by Noah Gibbs, Callum Scott and Darcy Jordan. Only two wickets at the end of the day seperated this team, who had struggled all year, from picking up an outright win. Ethan Loves, Joshua Bond, Will Hopkins and Owen Mason where the pick of the bowlers, each picking up wickets in both innings.
What's noticeable is that no one player stood out. It was team performance personified where someone contributed all game long. Terrific stuff.
Across the entire season Noah Gibbs (138), Logan Clements (127), Callum Scott (100) and Henry Kocatekin (80) all did admirably with the bat - finishing as the Top 4 in the team; Noah and Logan sharing honours with the highest individual score of 36. Three sixes were hit, to those top 2, whilst everyone but two hit at least a boundary.
Owen Mason (13), Harry O'Donoghue (9), Noah Gibbs (7) and Joshua Bond (6) led the wicket taking - finishing as the Top 4. Henry Kocatekin though took the best figures and the only haul of 5/8 against Wests Blue.
In the field Harry Dark (6) easily led the catching, followed by Noah Gibbs (4), Owen Mason (4) and Henry Kocatekin (3). Logan Clements took 8 catches as 'keeper with Josh Bond taking one.
Additional encouragement to Patrick Hutton, Jarrod Peace and Liam Karema who played every game and gave their all. Patrick's best game came against Dapto when he scored 5 and took 1/15. Jarrod's best was probably scoring a defying 14* against Wollongong when they were setting up for outright victory, helping to prevent it from occurring. Liam's would have to be his 3 and 1/15 against a much stronger Corrimal side. Well done boys!
Congratulations Under 12 for trying your best and we look forward to seeing you on the field next year with self belief that you know what it takes to win, and many more victories coming your way!
