Dream Job: I'm hoping to have my own business ....one day!
During the summer of 1992/1993 a 6ft tall, skinny kid, by the name of Matt Benstead played his first game of grade cricket for (then) Thirroul Cricket Club on mats at Bulli Park.
Matt, being the junior member of the side, was placed at silly mid-on by then captain George Thirtle (GT). As "GT" threw down a number of his 'tweakers' Matt continually collected the blocked shots of the batsmen and threatened to throw down the stumps with almost every collection. David Joinking then offered the opinion of "look at this bloke eh butchers, he wants to kill every batsmen" ...and from there it didn't take long before Dave and the other members of the team referred to Matt as "Killer"
"Killer" has gone on to become a long serving and well known player within the Northern Districts Cricket Club. Whilst "Killer" has played in every grade except 1st grade, he continues to remain a key member of every team he plays in whether it be with the bat or the ball.
Matt's pace and swing with the ball is his strength and when combined with an accurate line and length, "Killer" attracts the attention of the opposing batsmen.
Matt has had some high scoring seasons with the bat and has scored several "50's" over the grades, but is yet to crack triple figures in any grade with the bat, hopefully this season is the one?
