This weeks Player of the Week is 2nd Grade opening batsman Mark Cottom for his match winning performance in a thriller against Helensburgh on Saturday.
Tasked with forging a new top order alliance with Luke Coleman, the two immediately made a mark in their first opening partnership together; registering a half century in the season opener.
Cottom was watchful early, but mindful when he was bogged down by chancing his arm over the top. It was most 'unCottomlike' and demonstrated his willingess to adapt to the conditions in a 1-Day fixture. Later on he punctured the field and ran hard, a bevvy of three's a highlight. Thrown the ball as the 2nd spinning option, he shone again with an outstanding display of tight left-arm-chinaman bowling. Ten miserly overs leaked only fifteen but accounted for two important wickets. The Butchers would come from behind to win by three runs.
Other mentions include the scintillating 2nd Grade debut of Rob Murphy, Lachlan Dunn's all-round freak, Matt Salakas' effort at the top of the order in difficult conditions, the other Murphy (Brett) remaining notout (!!) and Mark Rollestone's three wicket spell in partnership with Rob.
But this week it was all Cottom. Congratulations Mark!
